A partial highlight is perfect for guests who want dimensional color through the top, crown, and sides of their hair while still keeping natural depth and contrast—ideal if you’re not wanting to be predominantly blonde or needing heavy blonding in the back or underneath sections. Our clients generally only need a full highlight 2x a year, with partial highlight appointments to maintain.

What a partial highlight is:
A partial highlight focuses on lightening the top and front sections of the hair- typically through the hairline, crown, and sides to create a natural, sun-kissed look while maintaining depth underneath.

What a full highlight is:
A full highlight places foils throughout the entire head, including the nape and underneath sections to create balanced, all-over brightness. It provides more coverage than a partial while still maintaining some depth and dimension, giving you a natural, blended blonde. Most guests rotate this in between partial highlight services.

HEAVY PARTIAL / HEAVY FULL HIGHLIGHT

Who should book this:
A heavy partial highlight is perfect for guests who love to be very blonde (“power blondes”) and want maximum brightness through the top, crown, and sides while still spacing out full highlight appointments—it’s ideal if you need more coverage than a standard partial but don’t need full blonding underneath.

What a heavy partial highlight is:
A heavy partial highlight uses a higher density of foils through the top and front sections of the hair to achieve a much brighter, more blended blonde result, requiring more product and application time; most guests can rotate this service 3–4 times in between full highlight appointments.

What a heavy full highlight is:
A heavy full highlight uses a high density of foils placed all over the head—including the nape and underneath areas—to create an overall bright, fully blended blonde result, requiring the most time, product, and maintenance. A full highlight should be done every 3–4 partial highlight services to keep the back and underneath sections consistently blonde.

This service focuses on hand-painted or foilayage techniques through the top, crown, and front sections—depending on the stylist’s application method of choice, both techniques achieving the same seamless, blended, dimensional result while keeping depth underneath.

What a full balayage is:
A full balayage is a lived-in blonding technique applied throughout the entire head, including the back, underneath, and interior sections, ensuring everything is lightened for a brighter overall result. Because the hair is lightened all the way through, there is less depth and dimension compared to a partial balayage, while still maintaining a soft, blended grow-out where the lightness does not go all the way to the root.

TIP OUTS

Who should book this:
Guests who want maximum brightness through the mid-lengths and ends, or whose blonde has become dull or dingy over time and needs to be refreshed back to a lighter, brighter finish.

What tipouts are:
When highlighting, some hair naturally remains between the foils. Tip outs are a technique where those left-out pieces are also lightened through the mid-lengths and ends, allowing for a higher concentration of blonde and a more cohesive, blonde-forward result. This creates maximum brightness and blend through the ends.

ALL-OVER COLOR (ROOTS TO ENDS)

Who should book this:
Guests wanting one solid color from roots through ends, refreshing faded color, or changing their overall shade.

Who should NOT book this:
Guests wanting dimension or any other color going through the hair

HIGHLIGHTS vs BALAYAGE

A traditional Highlight creates dimension and brighter, more structured lightness using foils, and the color extends closer to the root.

A Balayage creates a softer, more lived-in result with a natural grow-out, and is a hand-painted, open air technique. Think of it as looking like your hair was highlighted a few months ago and has grown in beautifully. The dimension is focused more through the mid-lengths and ends, creating a lower-maintenance look.

Hightlights are for all hair colors, not just blondes.

A highlight simply means adding dimension to the hair by placing a color that is lighter than the client’s natural or base color. Highlights can be blonde, but they can also be caramel, copper, honey, beige, or light brown. The goal of highlights is to create contrast and dimension throughout the hair rather than one solid color.
